Fine Mapping is all about lifting the lid on the day-to-day activities of specific teams or functions in your organisation. By focusing on what people actually do, we give you a clear, real-world picture of how things operate, so you can plan changes based on reality, not assumptions. Whether it’s streamlining processes or documenting roles, Fine Mapping helps you understand the details that drive your team’s performance.
Fine Mapping zooms in on specific teams or functions within your organisation. It’s not a big-picture overview like digital mapping, it’s about getting into the details, who does what, how tasks flow, and where things might get stuck. This approach helps you document responsibilities and workflows, so nothing gets missed. It’s hands-on, practical, and perfect for improving efficiency.
How is Fine Mapping Different to Digital Mapping
Digital Mapping gives a big-picture or holistic view of your organisation’s daily activities, helping guide strategic decisions. Fine Mapping, by contrast, focuses on specific teams or functions, detailing their actions to support operational decision-making and create valuable documentation.
Why Does it Matter?
Fine Mapping gives you a practical, hands-on way to reduce inefficiencies and support operational decision-making. It also helps you avoid costly issues like technical debt, legacy systems, and feature paralysis, which can slow your progress. Here’s some of the reasons we it's valuable:

Description
Capture reality
Fine Mapping gives you an accurate snapshot of what’s really happening in specific teams or functions, helping you base decisions on facts.
Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies
By breaking down workflows and tasks we highlight where things slow down or get tangled, allowing you to make targeted improvements.
Avoid technical debt
By documenting real workflows and tasks, Fine Mapping helps you avoid taking shortcuts that can lead to technical debt. Instead of quick fixes that need costly revisits, you’ll have a solid foundation to build on.
Avoid feature paralysis
Fine Mapping prevents your teams from becoming dependent on outdated features by identifying what works—and what’s holding you back. This lets you make necessary updates without getting stuck.
Reduce legacy software dependency
As Fine Mapping details your processes, it highlights where legacy systems might be limiting your operations. You’ll be better positioned to modernise without disruption.
Clear documentation
With detailed maps and context, everyone knows exactly who’s responsible for what, leading to better coordination and accountability.
Support for change
Fine Mapping gives you the insights you need to make real changes, whether it’s improving workflows or adjusting team roles, all based on how things actually operate.

Feature
Description
Team selection
We work with you to choose the teams or functions where Fine Mapping will have the biggest impact, especially those dealing with older systems or inefficient workflows.
Data gathering
We start by collecting existing process documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and any insights your team already has on how things should work today. This includes understanding what your team thinks is happening and the vision for where you want to be.
Insights gathering
We use AI tools to engage with your team, asking them about their daily tasks and answering their questions in real time. This approach helps gather unfiltered, real-world insights, giving you a clear view of how your business currently operates. It’s an effective way to understand the status quo, identify areas for improvement and surface both tacit and explicit knowledge.
Qualification
We guide you through conversations and feedback with relevant team members and leaders, capturing their real-world insights into tasks and challenges. This helps identify areas where legacy software or inefficient features are slowing things down, and highlighting fragmentation.
Workflow mapping
We collaborate to create detailed visual maps that show how tasks move through the team, while guiding you through creating documentation for your existing processes, providing a clear record of how things operate.
Documentation creation
Fine Mapping provides clear documentation of team responsibilities, workflows, and any reliance on legacy systems, so you can prioritise which areas need modernisation.
Review and recommendations
After mapping and analysis, we offer practical recommendations to reduce inefficiencies, avoid technical debt, and modernise processes without major disruption.
Consultancy session
Our consultants will review the findings with you, discuss how to implement changes, and provide guidance on avoiding common issues like technical debt and outdated software.
How Does It Work?
Our Fine Mapping process follows a clear, easy-to-understand path:
What Do You Need from Us?
We need a lead for the project in your organisation and your input to identify the key teams or functions to focus on. We’ll also need access to relevant data and engagement from your team. Don’t worry, we handle most of the process, but your teams involvement ensures we focus on the areas that matter most. With our guidance, you’ll get practical, actionable insights that help you avoid costly challenges down the road.

How Do I Get Started?
If you love the idea and would like to get started, the team would love to chat. Email us at team@yopla.co.uk or click below to meet one of our fantastic team members at a time that works for you. Let’s begin your journey towards a fully mapped digital landscape together!
Fine Mapping is all about getting into the details of how your teams work day-to-day. We zoom in on specific departments or functions, mapping out workflows, and documenting processes. It helps you figure out what’s really going on and where things can be improved. And yes, we assume you’ve already done our Digital Mapping, which gives us the big picture before we dive into the details.
How is Fine Mapping different from Digital Mapping?
Think of Digital Mapping as the overview, it shows how your whole organisation functions. Fine Mapping, on the other hand, is like popping the hood to see how specific parts (teams or functions) work. We look at the everyday tasks and who’s doing what, so you can make smarter decisions at the operational level.
How does Fine Mapping help with technical debt and old software?
If you’re struggling with clunky old systems or patchwork fixes (technical debt), Fine Mapping is perfect for spotting where those things are holding you back. We’ll help you figure out where to upgrade without breaking everything in the process.
How much does Fine Mapping cost?
Here’s the deal: Fine Mapping pricing assumes you’ve already completed our Digital Mapping. As a guide:
For teams of up to 50 employees: £12,750.
For 50 to 200 employees: £16,500.
For larger organisations (around 1,000 employees): it’s usually between £40,000 to £75,000, depending on how complex things are.
What’s included in Fine Mapping?
You get a full package:
• Detailed workflow maps (we use Figma, so they look great!).
• Proper documentation of your existing processes.
• Chats with your team members to understand their day-to-day.
• Actionable insights to help you improve efficiency and cut out bottlenecks.
• A consultancy session to help you make those improvements happen.
What’s the Discovery Phase?
This is where we kick things off, either virtually or on-site, by chatting with your team to really understand how things are working. These interviews give us all the info we need to create accurate process maps.
How long does Fine Mapping take?
For smaller organisations (under 200 employees), it usually takes about 6 to 12 weeks. For bigger ones (up to 1,000 employees), it can take 12 to 18 weeks—it all depends on how accessible and complex your workflows are.
What do you need from us?
Just your involvement! We’ll need access to your team, data, and workflows to make sure the maps and documentation are accurate. Don’t worry, though, we handle the heavy lifting. Your role is just to stay engaged and provide the info we need.
What happens after the mapping is complete?
Once we’ve finished the mapping and documentation, we’ll review everything with you. Then we’ll give you tailored recommendations to help improve workflows and reduce inefficiencies. We’ll also guide you through implementing any changes.
